Music is an integral part of the spiritual life of Centre. Incorporated into every service, hymns unite the congregation in praising the Lord. In addition, we have choirs for those who would like to contribute their time and talents. There is always space in either group for additional members who would like to join in the singing of God’s Praise.
Under the able and inspired leadership of Hugh McPherson, the men and women of the adult choir provide an essential element in the spiritual aspect of the Sunday morning service. Their faithful attendance at Monday night practices is apparent in the professional and skilled presentation of anthems. The choice of anthems reflects the current emphasis of the religious calendar be it Lent, Advent, Christmas, or Easter; but they never forget that Christ wants us to be joyous and happy. Songs can range from African spirituals to traditional hymns to a more modern syncopated beat. They have taught us that applause is not out of place in the sanctuary. The adult choir practices and performs from September through June.
All are welcome to join—spirit and enthusiasm are required—musical skill is optional. Contact Hugh McPherson: 717-382-4035
Our children love to sing! Our Children's Choir, ages 3 years to 5th grade, sings once a month during the Worship Hour in church. To enhance their songs they often play musical instruments and march throughout the church. The children practice during their regular Sunday School class so there are no extra rehearsals or time commitments. We have lots of fun songs to sing every year.
